Franklin Suzuki Academy is pleased to launch our third year of our Suzuki Baby & Toddler Class! This course was developed by veteran Suzuki teachers who took Suzuki’s philosophy to heart: musical ability development begins at age zero.
During the course, children learn to associate music with the loving attention of their parent. Even the youngest infants learn to respond to others in the class, thus developing a very social atmosphere of empathy and cooperation. Designed for skill mastery instead of simple exposure, children learn music from two repertoire lists of nursery rhymes, circle songs and activities that we alternate in each weekly class. This structure allows for child and parent to gain confidence because everyone knows what’s coming next! In an atmosphere free from pressure, the children become increasingly attentive and highly motivated to participate as the classes progress. This allows the teachers to incorporate new elements and variations into the repertoire as it becomes appropriate for each individual child.
This course is also an excellent choice for young children who are interested in taking instrumental lessons, but aren’t quite ready for formal instruction. Children who graduate from this course are very well suited for violin or cello lessons at age 3 or 4, as they have already practiced the skills of taking turns, following directions, waiting, and have developed a sense of pitch and rhythm.
The course is taught by veteran Suzuki teachers Sarah Mitchell and Andra Prewett. We hope you and your child will join us and see what is possible when you spend this special time with your young one on our class!
Fall term begins on Thursday, September 6th. Classes are held on Thursdays from 10-11 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. To register, visit our Early Childhood Music page.
