Frequently Asked Questions

We typically begin instrumental instruction at age 4. Children who have taken a year of Suzuki Baby & Toddler Music Class may begin at age 3 with an instructor’s recommendation. The ideal time to begin lessons is 3-5 years old to capitalize on the child’s formative language learning years, although we also instruct older beginners as well.

We take the time to get to know each of our applicants before confirming enrollment. We will schedule an interview with you and your child so we can meet each other and you can get to know us. We want you to have all the information you need before deciding to enroll. You will also have the opportunity to observe a lesson with a child of the same age. Many 3-year-olds are not ready to take formal music instruction, so we highly recommend they take our Suzuki Baby & Toddler Class first to help them prepare for formal instrumental lessons.

Private lessons typically start at 30 minutes for young beginners and increase in length for more advanced students. Group classes are 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the level.

Current tuition rates are published on our website. Our tuition is priced fairly to compensate our instructors for the extra time and training it takes to be able to teach high-quality Suzuki lessons. Though there is no discount for siblings on tuition, there are some savings in the registration fees for families with multiple children in our program.

The school does not supply instruments to their students. Wonderful rent-to-own programs are available at Williams Fine Violins and The Violin Shop, both located in Nashville. Families are advised against purchasing instruments off the internet as the quality cannot be guaranteed.

Yes, at first. The important skill of note reading is introduced later on once the student has a solid technical foundation.

Many parents are intimidated by the idea of becoming their child’s home teacher. Fear not! We will show you exactly how to work with your child each week. Many parents say they develop their own musical ability after sitting in on their child’s lessons.

Please fill out our enrollment inquiry form. We will schedule an observation with a child of similar age. Afterwards, one of our instructors will interview our and your child to determine if we are a good fit for each other, and to answer any questions you may have about our program.
